PANAJI: The names of Narendra Sawaikar and Damodar “Damu” Naik are currently on the final list of candidates, which has been prepared by the party’s central leadership, according to outgoing state BJP chief Sadanand Tanavade.
Tanavade alsostated that it is too soon to declare the name of the new state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
He stated, “It indicates that either Sawaikar or Naik will be the next state BJP president.”
He added that Sunil Bansal, the party’s national general secretary, will be traveling to Goa later this week to act as an observer during the poll.
“The state BJP core committee will meet as soon as Bansal ji arrives on either January 17 or January 18 and the party will then issue an election notification,” he stated. According to Tanavade, the nomination papers for the election would be submitted the following day.
Tanavade added that the identity of the next state BJP president would be formally announced at a special event.
“I can only state that since the new state BJP president’s name has not yet been determined, Sawaikar and Naik have an equal chance.”
There are a lot of speculative stories circulating about Damu Naik being the next state BJP president. These reports also claim that Naik’s guaranteed ascent to the leadership of the state BJP unit is due to his Bhandari card.
Naik is a former MLA from the Fatorda constituency, while Sawaikar is a former MP from South Goa.
