CANACONA: The long-awaited new Canacona Municipal Building will be inaugurated after January 15 next year, informed Minister for Arts & Culture, Sports & Youth Affairs and Tribal Welfare, and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar.
Tawadkar was speaking to reporters after inspecting the ongoing finishing works at the newly constructed municipal complex, which has been built after demolishing the old Portuguese-era Camara building. A final inspection of the project was carried out in the presence of Director of Municipal Administration Brijesh Manerikar, Chief Planning Officer Ankush Gaonkar, Assistant Engineer Munna Muzawar and project consultant Datta Kare.
The new municipal complex, described as a major civic infrastructure boost for Canacona, will house modern municipal offices, commercial shops and a multipurpose hall with a seating capacity of over 600 people. The three-storey commercial-cum-office complex is expected to significantly enhance administrative efficiency and public facilities within the Canacona Municipal Council (CMC).
Tawadkar stated that construction work is nearing completion and is expected to be fully finished by January 15, following which the building will be inaugurated in the presence of the Chief Minister and the concerned ministers. He added that only finishing touches remain for most sections of the project.
Present during the inspection were CMC Chairperson Laxuman Pagui, Vice Chairperson Gandesh Madgaonkar, Chief Officer Laxmikant Desai, Chaudi ward councillor Ramakant Naik Gaonkar, and councillors Pandurang (Dheeraj) Naik Gaonkar, Narcisco Fernandes, Amita Pagui, Neetu Desai, Supriya Desai and Simon Rebello. Tawadkar reviewed both completed sections and ongoing finishing works of the complex.
Former BJP Mandal President Vishal Desai, Municipal Engineer Dilkhush Gaonkar and other officials were also in attendance.
During the visit, discussions were held regarding the tender floated for the proposed new fish market near the municipal complex. Tawadkar said that both the municipal building and the fish market projects would address long-pending demands of Canacona residents and contribute significantly to the town’s overall development.
