Canacona: Highlighting the developmental disparities in South Goa, Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar has called for the creation of a new district, Kushavati, to bridge gaps in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other essential services in talukas like Dharbandora, Quepem, Sanguem, and Canacona.
In a video message, Tawadkar, who has been out of station for the last three days, appealed to residents of Canacona to support the formation of the third district. He said, “Since Liberation, areas in Dharbandora, Quepem, Sanguem, and Canacona have lagged behind in development. The proposed Kushavati district will help boost infrastructure, healthcare, and education in these regions and ensure they receive the attention they deserve.”
The MLA also explained that while municipalities such as Poinguinim and Loliem-Polem have good connectivity to Margao due to the highway, many hinterland villages, including Khotigao, Gaondongrim, and Khola, remain poorly connected. “Since the formation of BJP governments, some developments in these areas were possible, but much still needs to be done,” he added.
Tawadkar urged citizens to study the government’s proposal and provide feedback through proper forums. He emphasized that the government is open to suggestions and requests public consent for the formation of the third district.
The proposal for Kushavati district was earlier presented in an All-Party Meeting, where Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant explained the rationale and potential benefits of creating a separate district for the backward regions of South Goa.
