PANAJI: The new 150-200 MLD water project in South Goa will definitely address the problem of water scarcity in the district, WRD Minister Rohan Khaunte said.
Minister for Water Resources Subhash Shirodkar, on Friday, visited various water bodies in South Goa. These include Davorlim raw water pumping station, Salzora Lake, Quepem Dam, Kushawati River, Mirabhag, Soliem and Salaulim Dam.
During his visit, he said April and May are the ideal months to inspect the water bodies as the demand for water supply is high, and there is water scarcity in the state.
“This is the right season wherein we can plan the strategies for the next 25 years. My purpose behind this inspection is to provide sufficient water supply to Salcete and Mormugao Taluka as there is a huge demand for water supply as both these talukas are densely populated and also has Industrial Estate,” he said.
Shirodkar further said that the upcoming 250 MLD project will solve water scarcity problems in North Goa. Similarly, he said, WRD will take up a 150-200 MLD water project in South Goa which will definitely address the problem of water scarcity in the state.
The other dignitaries who accompanied the Minister during his visit were Chief Engineer Shri Pramod Badami, additional Chief Engineer Shri Santosh Gaonkar, Superintendent Engineer Shri Krishnakanth Patil, along with other WRD technical staff and engineers.
