VASCO: In a move to support the local motorcycle taxi community, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar inaugurated a newly constructed shade for the Mormugao Motorcycle Taxi Association pilots near the Vasco KTC bus stand.
The facility is expected to offer much-needed respite to the traditional “pilots” who have long endured the region’s harsh sun and monsoon rains without proper shelter. Motorcycle pilots are a distinctive feature of Goan life, with several families engaged in the profession for generations.
Speaking at the event, Salkar said the initiative reflects the BJP’s commitment to Antyodaya — the upliftment of the most marginalized. “This may be a small step, but it brings real improvement to the lives of our motorcycle taxi operators and adds structure to this vital mode of public transport,” he said.
Members of the association expressed gratitude for the long-overdue facility and called it a “symbolic yet significant” gesture in recognising the importance of their service to the community.
