CANACONA: Residents in Gaondongrim cry foul alleging a new electrical Transformer installed on the roadside is left without protective fencing, endangering motorists, pedestrians and cattle passing on the road.
According to concerned residents, recently a new Transformer installed on the roadside is left without fencing or any protection at Nanem in Gaondongrim village. Since the electrical transformer is very close to the main village road, vehicles, as well as pedestrians and also animals (mostly cattle), pass across this transformer so very close that it looks like a calamity is waiting to happen.
‘They have installed, energized and left this Transformer open (installation korun ashe korun dovorla) exposing it dangerously to serious repercussions if any vehicle or even some person comes close to it. There is an urgent need to fence or cordon –off this transformer to avoid any humans or animal gets in contact with it. It is too dangerous for the people as well as the cattle, informed a resident.
Another resident pointed to the roadside where a trench is developed with many motorists coming close to the transformer to give- sufficient sides to the oncoming vehicles on this narrow road. Realizing he danger looms large, the residents themselves now placed some bamboo sticks to warn the motorists going close to the transformer.
Incidentally, this 11 KV transformer was recently installed for the underground power cable in the village, from where the power distribution cable for the LT line provides connections to the consumers.
People have demanded immediate action from the electricity department to provide fencing around the 11-KV Transformer and ensure safety in the area.
