VASCO: Goa state immunization head Dr. Rajendra Borkar on Monday morning said that the Covishield vaccine may give lifelong immunity against Covid 19 virus. Borkar spoke to reporters alongside an Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight program organized at Chicalim Sub District Hospital by the Directorate of Health Services.
” As of yesterday, we can say that at least around 10 lakh people have been administered the first dose, taking their protection level to 60 percent while around 2.5 Lakhs have received their second dose and are now having protection level to around 80 percent. We feel this isn’t excellent coverage considering that the estimated population of Goa of the people above 18 years is 11,94,329 and this takes the state vaccination coverage is around 83 percent. We only appeal to the people to get themselves vaccinated,” said Dr. Borkar
“There is also important news that In a recent study conducted in the UK, it is found that Astra Zenica Vaccine known as Covishield in India may provide immunity for a lifetime against the Covid 19 virus and there is no greater news than this amidst the pandemic. People may speak about the side effects, but we have given over 40 crores of vaccination across India, and we have seen that side effects are minimal compared to the risk benefits. The vaccine is safe and offered free of cost, and people must come forward and can register on the spot to vaccinate themselves to save themselves and Goa as well,” said Dr. Borkar
Borkar said that Goa Government had covered vaccination of all categories, including pregnant women, People who did not have Adhaar cards, like Nepali people in Goa but were awaiting directions on immunization of foreign nationals in Goa.
” Vaccination is the only way that can prevent us from the securities of the third wave, and we fear that there may be a rise in Covid cases as festival seasons like Ganesh Chaturthi are fast approaching, and we can still be infected despite taking vaccine doses if we don’t adhere to proper precautionary measures,” said Borkar.
