ANKHOLA: National Fishworkers Forum (NFF) General Secretary Olencio Simoes joined local fishers in Keni, Ankola, to protest against a geo-technical survey linked to the proposed construction of a Rs 4,119 crore greenfield port by JSW Steel.
Simoes expressed strong opposition to the project, warning that the massive port development would devastate the pristine Keni beach and displace nearly 10,000 fishers from their homes and traditional livelihoods.
NFF has already led a delegation to the Chief Minister of Karnataka, urging the state government to withdraw the project in order to protect coastal communities and marine ecology.
