PERNEM: According to a statement from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, the landslide debris on National Highway 66 near Malpem Naibag will be removed. After that, the roadway will be open for traffic on September 30th when the process of benching for slope stabilization is finished.
Following the removal of the debris and benching, the NH66 at Malpem Naibag will be opened, according to the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.
Although efforts were made to clean the debris right away, the constant rain was causing more slides. Therefore, to carry out benching for slope stabilization, 25 mt wide private land had to be obtained on both sides of the cut portion.
According to MoRTH, the landslide on July 7 was caused by exceptionally heavy rain. Traffic was stopped and rerouted along the old road following the landslide. Due to site limits, it was not able to properly bench the cut slope during construction.
For its protection, a 270-meter-long retaining wall with a height of 5 to 6 meters was built on both sides, according to MoRTH.
