PERNEM: A 40-year-old Nigerian national, Joseph Osuagwu Kelechi, was arrested by Pernem Police on Friday after a narcotics raid at New Housing Colony, Pethechawada, Corgao, led to the seizure of Ecstasy tablets, Charas and cash.
The raid, conducted between 12:47 pm and 2:40 pm on November 29 based on inputs received by PSI Sahil S. Naik, resulted in the recovery of 13 pink Ecstasy tablets weighing 3.66 grams and 23.88 grams of Charas, together valued at around ₹1.05 lakh. The drugs were reportedly concealed in the dicky of a Yamaha Fascino (GA-03-BA-6901).
Police also seized a black RFID-tagged leather purse containing ₹9,600 in cash, along with the scooter used in the offence. The search and seizure were carried out after following all mandatory NDPS procedures, officials said.
Kelechi, currently residing at Pethechawada, Corgao and at a second address in Cunchelim, Mapusa, was placed under arrest at 6:21 pm the same day in compliance with Supreme Court guidelines. An express report has been filed given the seriousness of the offence, and the FRRO has been requested to inform the Nigerian Consulate.
