PANAJI: The Crime Branch of Goa Police arrested nine persons during a raid on a gambling den at Honda in Sattari in the wee hours of March 31.
According to SP Jivba Dalvi, the raid was conducted following reliable information about illegal gambling activities at Honda. A Crime Branch team swooped down on the premises and found several individuals engaged in card gambling, locally known as “Andhar Bahar,” a game of chance.
Police identified Surya Pandurang Gaonkar, 40, a resident of Honda, Sattari, as the person allegedly operating the gambling den. The others arrested were Gopal Jilla Gaonkar (43) of Saleli, Honda; Gundu Nakul Gaonkar (51) of Honda; Dinesh Rama Naik (40) of Saleli, Sattari; Rajaram Krishna Gawade (61) of Pisurlem; Manohar Laximan Gaonkar (62) of Honda; Ramesh Gangaram Chari (54) of Honda; Pandurang Krishna Gaonkar (50) of Honda; and Sunil Subhash Godyalkar (24) of Honda, Sattari.
During the raid, police seized cash amounting to ₹52,300 along with other gambling articles from the premises and from the possession of the accused persons.
An offence has been registered under Sections 3 and 4 of the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act. Further investigation is being carried out by PI Sangodkar under the supervision of SP Jivba Dalvi.
