PANAJI: In a bid to help improve the academic standards of the government schools, the students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) will act as ‘student teacher volunteers’ for the students of standards VIII to X from the government schools.
The NIT Goa, in coordination with the Education department, will implement ‘Each one Teach One’ programme across all government schools from October 15 onwards. Close to 800 students are expected to participate in the programme.
“The basic aim of this programme is to trigger the spark that is there among the students of Class VIII, IX and X,” NIT director Gopal Mugeraya said.
Mugeraya said that the programme is meant to ultimately encourage students who show an inclination and talent for mathematics and science to be encouraged and supported to pursue them to a higher academic level at institutes like NITs, IITs, etc.
“The aim is to enable children to become motivated and engaged in science, mathematics and technology by creating curiosity, excitement and exploration among school children in the topics,” he said.
The Director informed that NIT has so far trained 450 government high school teachers and Principals on how to make teaching mathematics and science more exciting for the students.
