New Delhi: India added three more medals to its tally at the Senior Asian Wrestling Championships 2026 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, with Greco Roman wrestlers winning one silver and two bronze medals on Wednesday.
Nitesh delivered an impressive campaign in the 97 kilogram category to claim the silver medal. The 23 year old wrestler advanced to the final with strong performances but fell short in the title bout against defending champion Mohammadhadi Saravi. Nitesh lost the final 1 to 7, settling for second place while improving on his performance from the previous edition of the championship.
India’s first medal of the day came through Sachin Sahrawat in the 67 kilogram Greco Roman category. He staged a remarkable comeback in the bronze medal match against Abdumalik Aminov of Uzbekistan. Trailing 3 to 5 in the second round, Sachin scored a decisive takedown in the final minute and earned an additional point after a failed challenge from his opponent, sealing a narrow 6 to 5 victory.
Another bronze medal for India came from Prince in the 82 kilogram Greco Roman division. Prince produced a dominant display to defeat Didar Amannazarov of Turkmenistan with a commanding 10 to 1 scoreline.
With these results, India’s overall medal tally at the championships reached two silver and three bronze medals by the third day of competition.
In the women’s wrestling events, Hansika Lamba and Neha will compete for bronze medals after losing their semi final matches. Hansika was defeated 11 to 1 by Yuxuan Li of China and will now face Aruuke Kadyrbek Kyzy in the bronze medal play off.
Neha also missed out on a place in the final after a 12 to 5 loss to former Asian champion Mengyu Xie of China and will next take on Bolortuya Khurelkhuu of Mongolia for the bronze medal.
Meanwhile, Neelam still has a chance to secure a medal after advancing to the repechage round in the 50 kilogram category. She will face Ziqi Feng of China in the next round.
