VALPOI: The no-confidence motion filed against Keri Sarpanch Supriya Gavas was passed on Thursday with seven votes in favour and none against. Out of the nine panchayat members, Sarpanch Supriya Gavas and member Rajesh Gavas remained absent during the meeting.
The motion had been filed by panch members Bhiwa Gavas, Tanvir Pangam, Diksha Gavas, Nandita Gavas, Sandeep Tate, Shripad Gavas, and Usman Sayyed, who alleged that the Sarpanch failed to take other members into confidence regarding panchayat matters. Acting on their complaint, the Valpoi Block Development Officer convened a special meeting to decide on the resolution.
When the matter was put to vote, all seven present members supported the no-confidence motion, leading to its unanimous passage.
With the Sarpanch being removed, Deputy Sarpanch Usman Sayyed has been entrusted with handling the day-to-day affairs of the panchayat until a new Sarpanch is elected.
Meanwhile, villagers have urged that the election for a new Sarpanch be held at the earliest. According to sources, there is an “unwritten agreement” among members that Nandita Gavas is likely to be chosen as the next Sarpanch, though the final decision will depend on the outcome of the forthcoming election.
