Valpoi: The ongoing power struggle within the Sattari Taluka Farmers Society has reached a critical juncture with five out of nine directors filing a no-confidence motion against Chairman Anil Katkar. In a dramatic turn of events, Katkar has resigned from both the post of chairman and director even before the scheduled vote on the motion.
The vote of no confidence is set to be held at 11 am on July 31 at the society’s office in Valpoi, with Rama Parab appointed as the election officer for the proceedings. Despite Katkar’s resignation, officials from the Cooperative Department have clarified that the vote on the no-confidence resolution will go ahead as planned.
Tensions within the society have been simmering since Katkar’s election, leading to a division within the board. The motion against Katkar is supported by Vice Chairman Sagun Wadkar and directors Pandurang Gavas, Narayan Gavkar, Shahaji Desai, and Ganpat Gavkar. However, three directors—Suranga Naik, Sitaram Desai, and Pradeep Gawadalkar—have not endorsed the resolution.
The dissenting directors have accused Katkar of arbitrary decision-making, failing to consult the board, violating organizational guidelines, and acting unilaterally in administrative matters—allegations they say have compromised the functioning of the society.
The Cooperative Department has issued notices to all directors regarding the upcoming vote. Katkar’s resignation, particularly from the directorship along with the chairmanship, has stirred further debate, adding a new layer of complexity to the already contentious internal dispute.
