PANAJI: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane today said that Government of India has not yet issued any guidelines related to Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) for the States.

Union health ministry has confirmed that two cases of HMPV have been detected in Karnataka. A 3-month-old girl and a 8-month-old boy have been tested positive in a hospital in Bengaluru during routine surveillance, informed the Ministry.
Both have a history of bronchopneumonia and the girl has already been discharged, while the boy who was tested positive on Jan 3 is recovering, the Ministry’s release added. Neither of the affected patients have any history of international travel.
The spread of the HMPV, a respiratory illness with flu-like symptoms similar to Covid-19, in China, has raised health concerns globally, with countries closely monitoring the situation

Proper line listing of all cases of SARI and lab-confirmed cases of Influenza on the IHIP Portal.
Patient safety measures – Isolation of suspect cases and other measures to prevent the spread of disease, including all universal precautions while treating patients with ILI/SARI.
Liaisoning with private hospitals in their district with MSNH to ensure proper reporting and treatment.
