PANAJI: The Goa government has said it is aware of the arrest of Ayesha alias S.B. Krishna alias Nikki by the Uttar Pradesh Police in connection with an alleged unlawful religious conversion case registered in Agra.
Ayesha was arrested under FIR No. 228/2025 at Sadar Bazar Police Station, Agra, under Sections 87, 111(3) and 111(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 3(5) of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021.
The arrest was carried out on July 17, 2025, with assistance from Old Goa Police, after a team from the Uttar Pradesh Police traced the accused to Flat No. 227, first floor, behind Healthway Hospital at Bainguinim in Old Goa, where she was residing at the time.
Following the arrest, the Crime Branch Police Station, Ribandar, conducted an inquiry to ascertain whether the accused was involved in any international network operating in Goa for illegal religious conversions.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that no such links have been found so far.
“The Government of Goa is fully aware of the arrest made by the Uttar Pradesh Police, and our police extended all necessary cooperation. The Crime Branch conducted a detailed inquiry to check for any international or illegal religious conversion network operating in Goa. However, no evidence of any illegal religious conversion activity in the State has come forth,” Sawant said.
The Chief Minister added that the Goa government remains vigilant and will continue to cooperate with other states while ensuring that law and order is maintained within Goa.
