PANAJI: Questions on gold smuggling, namely at Dabolim Airport, were brought up by Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai during the current assembly session. The Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, who is also the Home Minister, responded to the questions.
Regarding rumours of gold smuggling at Dabolim Airport, Sawant clarified that no instances of gold smuggling have been documented at the airport.
This response allays recent worries regarding illicit activity at the airport, particularly with regard to a particular case involving three people who were purportedly under court supervision.
The Home Minister stated that the Central Government is in charge of this issue in reference to a complaint that South Goa MP Capt Viriato Fernandes filed with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Goa, alleging that a cabinet minister and their employees are involved in the smuggling of gold.
As a result, neither the inquiry nor the actions done in this matter are directly related to the State Government. Regarding preventive measures, the Home Minister refrained from giving particulars regarding the steps implemented by the State Government to counter gold smuggling.
