Panaji: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho has assured that the upcoming Konkan Railway stations at Neura-O-Grande, Mayem and Sarzora will be built without acquiring any additional land and without disturbing Goa’s coastal ecology or forest cover.
Godinho said there will be no disturbance to existing water bodies or channels as adequate culverts and bridges had already been built during the original railway alignment works.
The Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL), in a July 12, 2025 letter, confirmed that the new stations are intended purely for operational purposes, with minimal passenger facilities, and will not be used for freight loading or unloading.
Work on the Sarzora crossing station is already underway, with the station building, embankment, and minor bridge extensions completed, while road overbridge construction, track linking, and signalling are in progress. The Neura-O-Grande and Mayem stations are awaiting final sanction from the Ministry of Railways before work begins.
The proposed Sao Jose de Areal station falls under South Western Railway jurisdiction and is not part of the KRCL project.
