SANKHALI: The Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that the sole intention behind making Konkani mandatory for government jobs was to prevent outsiders from applying and taking benefits.
Maintaing that thr govt has not dome any injustice to Marathi language, Sawant said that Konkani being a Mother tongue it becomes our top priority to promote.
“Konkani language is now mandatory for government jobs to prioritize locals and protect them from outsiders. This does not mean injustice has been done to Marathi,” said Sawant
Sawant emphasized the value of Konkani in Goa, pointing out that the government has decided to make it a component of the Goa Staff Selection Commission exam.
He clarified that although many applicants fared well in other subjects, those with lesser Konkani scores could not pass it.
Sawant further noted that Konkani has gained national significance as a result of its inclusion in the Indian Constitution’s 8th Schedule. He reassured the populace that the administration is not just concerned with Goa’s historical foundations but also with the future of Konkani and its people.
Sawant revealed that he had met individuals and organizations committed to conserving and advancing Konkani while traveling throughout India, from Kochi to Delhi.
He praised the numerous individuals outside of Goa who are putting in a lot of effort to preserve the language and make it more widely known.
