PANAJI: Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte today said that his department has decided to do away with “tourism junket” concept and rather promote business trips in countries looking for new markets.
Tourism Minister Rohan khaunte ,GTDC Chairman Ganesh Goankar, CCP Mayor along with other government officiala chaired a meeting at paryatan bhavan to discuss various issues.
“It the first time that Goa Tourism did not participate in the WTA London Event. There were many questions in assembly asking whether there will not be another junket. We also did not participate in Paris show. We have not done a trip, we are very clear on how were going about,” said Khaunte
Khaunte said that the government looks at these events from a business perspective and junkets.
“If we get a positive message from the UK and if the E-visa issue is sorted out, then maybe good things will open up and things may workout positively for Goa,” he said
Khaunte said that Goa tourism should not participate in any international travel mart or road show unless there is a lot of work to be done, according to me and have always been vocal about it.
“We are very optimistic towards tourism and with a two airport, the footfall of tourists coming to Goa will increase. We expect a good turnaround of tourists internationally as well as domestic,” he added
Khaunte said that the department has challenge is to ensure that we are able to service the type of tourist coming into the state. He said that Goa Tourism Department is working with the travel agents and operators.
“There are concerns withe UK transition changing. UK getting an Indian origin Prime Minister is a good message. We are optimistic to handle these things,” he added
