PANAJI: Leader of Opposition Michael Lobo today said there is no need for a special anti-conversion law in Goa.
“In my view, there is no need for a special anti-conversion law in Goa as there is no
Large scale illegal religious conversion in the state,” said Lobo.
He further said that existing laws could curb such actions.
Lobo said, “This never happens in our Goa, and it should never happen. That is why all of us Goans need to unite.”
Lobo also said that no conversions are happening in the state, and religious institutions are not involved in doing conversions.
“Only a certain section of a particular religious community is involved in doing conversions,” he added.
The LoP also alleged that some people come from other states come into Goa and conduct prayer meetings and other such activities.
“Let everyone practice their own religion, but there should be no illegal conversions,” he added.
Lobo had recently said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s statement about staying vigilant against religious conversions in the state was ‘unnecessary and unwarranted’.
