The National Green Tribunal (NGT), New Delhi has upheld the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority’s (GCZMA) demolition order issued against the Saturday Night Market at Arpora.
The demolition order was issued on May 23, 2016 for operating in No Development Zone. The operator of the market Joseph Pereira had approached NGT challenging the order and stating that the structures existed prior to 1991.
However, during the course of hearing, the applicant failed to prove the contention.
“We have noted that the impugned order refers to the order of the Bombay High Court at Goa dated 20.04.2016 that all temporary structures/private shacks in CRZ area are to be demolished,” the NGT said.
“ We, thus, do not find any ground to interfere with the impugned order. The appeal is dismissed,” it added.
