CANACONA: Amidst Hindhavi Swaraj Sangthan calls to boycott outstation Muslim traders and non-Hindus carrying trades in Canacona, and to close down Weekly Saturday Bazaar to stop entry of Muslim traders from outside the taluka, the Saturday’s weekly bazaar today saw only local traders in the market area.
The entire market area where dozens of traders mostly coming from outside the State, failed to turn –up and participate in the weekly bazaar. However, locals many of whom are hilly-growers who otherwise regularly sell their produce by putting up road-side temporary stalls, are seen at the weekly bazaar displaying their produce and selling it to the few marketers.
Incidentally, over 90% of the traders at the weekly bazaar at Chaudi come from Belgaum, Hubli, Dharwad and other places, whereas following the call to close down the bazaar this Saturday, no goods transport vehicles reached the taluka on Saturday. Normally several trucks with their goods began to arrive Friday night itself and some reached in the morning of Saturday to participate in the weekly bazaar every week.
Incidentally, following the arrival of out-station traders with their produce, the response of weekly marketers is also very poor, as not much movement of people is seen in the bazaar till after noon time.
According to municipal sources, there is no official announcement of the closure of Saturday’s weekly bazaar at Chaudi, but the threat of Hindavi Swaraj Sanghan to close the market has kept away the outstation traders from attending the bazaar day in Chaudi.
‘No one informed anyone not to come for the bazaar day’, it seems following the threat of Hindavi Swaraj Sanghatan, the traders themselves kept away from participating for fear of running into losses if some untoward things go during the bazaar day.’, said a source.
CMC Chairperson Sara Naik Dessai informed the issue of Weekly bazaar will be discussed in the next municipal meeting.
Sources further informed that Canacona municipal council is not in favour of toying in the line of Hindavi Swaraj Sanghatan to close down the weekly bazaar, nor stop the outstation traders non-Hindu traders or otherwise from carrying trades in the Chaudi market. The sources further informed that CMC will extend an invitation to all the willing outstation traders to participate in the Chaudi’s weekly bazaar from next week.
Hindhavi Swaraj Sangthan, Canacona calling for permanent cancellation of ‘Juluse’ in Canacona, has given a call to boycott buying fruits, flower and vegetables from non-resident Muslim traders and made a vehement demand to slow-down the weekly Saturday bazaar to stop Non –Hindus outstation traders particularly from Hubli, Dharwad, Belgaum from participating in the weekly bazaar.
