PORVORIM: A month after Hyderbad Commissioner CV Anand in an interview with Goemkarponn revealed that Goa Police was supportive of drug investigations, Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that it is in fact the opposite.
Reacting to the issue raised by Goa Forward MLA Vijai Sardesai on allegations made by Hyderabad Commissioner, the Chief Minister said the Goa Police had written to Hyderabad Commissioner seeking support in drug investigations.
“The letter was written three months earlier and to date, we have not received any reply from the commissioner,” he said.
City Police Commissioner CV Anand accused Goa police of not cooperating with the Hyderabad counterparts in narcotic cases. He said Hyderabad police sought the help of Goa police in narcotic-related cases, but they did not cooperate.
The remarks come in the wake of the investigation into interstate drug peddlers. Hyderabad CP was speaking at a press meet on drugs, the dark web, crypto-currency, and couriers.
Recently, the Hyderabad police’s Narcotics Enforcement Wing (NEW) busted a gang and arrested 2 interstate peddlers and 6 local peddlers. Interestingly, one of the two interstate peddlers, who was originally from Haryana, is settled in Goa. CP said the names of some of the big drug peddlers in Goa appear in Goan dailies.
