SANKHALI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that no high school in the state can deny admissions to children with special needs.
CM Sawant was addressing the gathering on the occasion of the Distribution of Spectacles under Vision for All under Swayampurna Goa 2.0.
“No high school in the state can deny admissions to children with special needs. This is inclusive of Goa. Secretary Education & Director Higher Education are constantly monitoring this issue,” said Sawant.
Sawant also stressed the need for Goa to align its goals with that of the PM’s vision of Skill India, Fit India and Inclusive India by 2047.
He said that while a vibrant work culture is being developed in the state following the availability of industry-specific skills, the antyodaya principle of governance in the state ensures inclusivity of all sections of the society, including persons with disabilities.
“Pay attention to your fitness levels. Do yoga, or as Modi has outlined in his ‘Mann ki Baat’ take on traditional games. Along with ‘Fit India’, Goa should also be fit enough.” he added
Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has warned institutions against denial of admissions to students with disabilities.
“As mandated in Section 16 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016, it is mandatory on the part of educational institutions to provide inclusive education to children with disabilities in all schools, and in no way admission can be denied on the grounds of disability,” the Board had said.
