PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that no complains have been received pertaining to unaided English Medium Primary Schools charging high fees and heavy donations.
“For handling complaints regarding the fee hike, a Grievance Redressal Committee is constituted at the school level. In case the grievance(s) are not resolved by the Committee, complainant may then approach the Director of Education, as per Circular 4113 dated 17-01-2023. As of now, no complaints are received from any parents / individuals,” said CM Sawant
He further informed that every year Unaided Schools have to seek approval for the Fee Structure from the Directorate of Education.
“No school is permitted annual fee hike more than 10-15% of the approved total fee(s) as charged during the previous academic year and this is to be decided by the School Managing Committee in consultation with the PTA representatives,” he added
Sawant assured that if parents come forward and lodge complaints, he would take action against the aided schools that engage in charging pupils extra or other fees.
“If we receive complaints in writing, we will take action,” Sawant said in response to inquiries from the media about assisted schools demanding fees in addition to their annual costs.
Sawant, who is also the minister of education, previously acknowledged that even while aided schools get government subsidies, they nonetheless collect money from students in the form of maintenance fees, PTA dues, and other expenses.
He had stated that these institutions receive various facilities from the government in addition to grants and are not allowed to transfer pupils with additional funds.
