PANAJI: The owner of 31 villas in Sebastian Vaddo, Anjuna, Vianaar Construction Pvt Ltd (La Olalian), has been fined Rs 2.77 crore by the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) for operating without a sewage treatment facility and permission.
Asking “why you should not pay environmental compensation of Rs 2,77,25,000 to the Board for violation under Air and Water pollution Act,” the Board served the company with a show-cause notice on February 12.
The Board has also noted that, although being used for commercial tourism, the villas are not registered with the Tourism Department.
In a notification that has been sent, the Board has asked that the unit or facility reimburse it for the aforementioned violations by paying a penalty under the Polluter Pays Principle.
The Board found that, in violation of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, and the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, the establishment/unit was operating without a sewage treatment plant and without the Board’s valid Consent to Operate.
