The Goa government has taken a strong stance against the insulting of religious gods, with the case of Shreya Dhargalkar who made derogatory remarks about the deities of Cuncolim Fatarpekarin and Shree Lairai Devi of Shirgao.
This incident has sparked outrage among the community and raised important questions about the limits of free speech when it comes to religious beliefs.
The devotees of Shree Lairai Devi of Shirgao and Cuncolim Fatarpekarin marched to respective Police Station, demanding action against activist Shreya Dhargalkar and a minor girl for comments on the deity, devotees and the Dhond community.
The devotees also demanded that the minor girl, who posted on social media about pollution caused during the festival should apologise at the temple and also seek apologies from devotees whose sentiments were hurt by her post.
It is crucial to understand that nobody has the right to insult religious gods, as these beliefs are deeply sacred and hold great significance to those who follow them. Religious freedom is a fundamental human right, and it is essential that we respect and protect the diverse beliefs and practices of individuals and communities.
In response to this incident, Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has called for strong action to be taken against those who disrespect religious gods.
He has rightly emphasized the need to deal with such offences with iron hands, sending a clear message that such behaviour will not be tolerated in the state.
As a society, it is our responsibility to uphold the principles of respect, tolerance, and understanding when it comes to matters of religion.
Insulting religious gods not only violates the rights and beliefs of others but also undermines the values of mutual respect and coexistence that are essential for a harmonious society.
Who gives the right to Shreya Dhargalkar or any other person to make such derogatory comments against religious gods, revered by millions of people? Why do you want to create a communal discord?
What locus standi does Shreya Dhargalkar have to make comments on deities? Who is she?
It is good to see the CM Dr Pramod Sawant intervening and controlling the situation before it went out of hand.
Now, the punishment for such offences has to be exemplary after which nobody dares to insult religious gods be it Hindus, Christians, Muslims or any other religion.
Her comments seem only to be directed towards disturbing communal harmony and create unnecessary tensions.
Furthermore, CM Dr Sawant has also addressed the issue of extortion by NGOs, highlighting the importance of taking immediate action against those who exploit individuals for financial gain.
It is concerning to see that few NGOs (not all) have been targeting individuals for money, using religion as a tool for manipulation and exploitation.
It is high time such notorious NGOs are taken to task by the Goa Police and the Chief Minister.
In conclusion, it is essential that we condemn any form of insult or disrespect towards religious gods and uphold the values of religious freedom and tolerance. The actions taken by the Goa government in response to this incident set a strong example that such behavior will not be condoned, and it is crucial that we continue to promote a culture of respect and understanding towards all religious beliefs. Let us strive to build a society where all individuals can practice their faiths freely and without fear of discrimination or ridicule.
