PORVORIM: Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Yuri Alemao has responded to Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant’s remarks regarding protocol.
Sawant had noted that for the first time, the LoP did not accompany the Governor out of the House after his speech.
Alemao countered this by stating that he does not need lessons on protocol, especially when his actions are in the best interests of Goa and its people.
Alemao emphasized, “What happened yesterday was in the best interests of Goa and Goans, so I don’t think anyone needs to teach me protocol.”
He further added that the opposition will continue to expose the government’s shortcomings through various forms of protest.
Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai also weighed in on the matter, suggesting that the CM’s office should focus on performing its duties rather than maligning political opponents.
Sardesai stated, “The CM office is supercharged to malign political opponents. It should be utilized to do a good job. People of Goa know everything, and everything will be debated.” He also mentioned concerns about external powers attempting to dominate the legislature.
Aam Aadmi Party legislator Venzy Viegas supported Alemao’s stance, urging the opposition to be more forceful in their approach. Viegas said, “The opposition must be more forceful because we are all on the same page. The Aam Aadmi Party struggled during the previous administration. Our goal is to make the government better. It’s going to be a powerful session on a very significant day. We will bring up this government’s shortcomings.”
