PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today filed his nomination papers from the Sanquelim Assembly constituency. Sawant expressed confidence in winning from Sanquelim with a “big margin”.
Addressing the media, the Chief Minister said, “Once again, I’ve filed nomination from Sanquelim constituency. BJP will win the constituency with a big margin, and I will be elected from here again.”
“The workers and I are confident. We are coming back to power in Goa in 2022 with 22 plus seats,” he added.
Yesterday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced the remaining six candidates for the upcoming assembly polls in Goa, which are scheduled for February this year.
Also, Utpal Parrikar, Son of Former CM Manohar Parrikar, also filed his nomination from Panaji Constituency; he will lock horns with sitting MLA Babush Monserrate and Valmiki Naik from AAP, who also filed their nomination papers today.
Further, Laxmikant Parsekar filed his nomination as an independent candidate from Mandrem; Jit Arolkar as MGP candidate from Mandrem, Vijai Sardesai from Fatorda and Capt Venzy Viegas from Benaulim constituency on Benaulim constituency.
Also, Divya Rane filed for her nomination from the Poriem constituency. Rajesh Patnekar filed from Bicholim and Ravi Naik from Ponda constituency and Vishwajit Rane from Valpoi constituency.
TMC Candidates Sandeep Vazarkar and Valanka Alemao also filed their nominations from Porvorim and Navelim constituencies, respectively.
On the first day, two BJP candidates, power minister Nilesh Cabral and former art and culture minister Govind Gaude filed their nominations to contest Curchorem and Priol, respectively. Independent candidate Digvijit Chavan filed his nomination from Navelim.
On Monday, MGP candidate Naresh Sawal filed his nomination for Bicholim, BJP candidate Nilkant Halarnkar for Mapusa, BJP candidate Rohan Khaunte for Porvorim, Pooja Mayekar as independent for Aldona, MGP candidate Pandurang ‘Deepak’ Dhavalikar for Priol, MGP candidate Ketan Bhatikar for Ponda and BJP candidate Subhash Shirodkar for Shiroda.
MGP candidate Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar filed his nomination for Madkai constituency, Congress candidate Sankalp Amonkar for Mormugao, BJP candidate and transport minister Mauvin Godinho for Dabolim, Vishal Gajanan Naik as independent for Cortalim, Ajay Raju Boyer as independent for Curchorem, and former deputy speaker Isidore Fernandes as independent for Canacona
The last date for filing nomination papers is January 28. The scrutiny of the applications will take place on January 29. Withdrawal of nominations, if any, by the candidates will take place on January 31.
The elections for 40 constituencies are scheduled for February 14.
