PANAJI: In a bid to strengthen enforcement against illegal bullfights, also known as dhirios, the Additional Collector (I) North, Shri Gurudas Dessai, chaired a high-level meeting with members of the District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA).
During the meeting, the DSPCA committee members highlighted the ongoing challenges in implementing the ban on bullfighting under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. They emphasized the urgent need for stronger on-ground enforcement and increased public cooperation to prevent such unlawful and inhumane practices.
Chairman Shri Dessai underscored the importance of community awareness and participation, stating that collective action is essential to creating a cruelty-free environment. He called for sustained sensitization campaigns to educate the public on animal welfare laws and the consequences of violating them.
The meeting concluded with a resolution to intensify vigilance, coordinate with law enforcement agencies, and involve local stakeholders to eradicate illegal bullfights in North Goa.
