Panaji: In a move to prevent drowning incidents, the District Magistrate of North Goa has issued an order prohibiting swimming, bathing, or entering natural water bodies such as waterfalls, abandoned quarries, rivers, lakes, ponds, and similar sites within the jurisdiction of North Goa.
The decision comes in light of recurring drowning episodes reported from various locations frequented by both locals and tourists. Authorities have expressed concern over the increasing risks posed by unsafe and unsupervised water-based activities, especially during the monsoon season when water levels and currents can be unpredictable.
The order, issued under relevant legal provisions, is aimed at safeguarding public life and will remain in force until further notice. Violators may face legal action as per the applicable law.
Local authorities and police stations have been directed to ensure strict enforcement of the ban.
