CALANGUTE: In a continued offensive against the drug trade, North Goa Police arrested two persons and seized nearly 2.9 kilograms of suspected Ganja, valued at close to ₹3 lakh, during coordinated raids carried out in the Calangute and Saligao jurisdictions over the past two days.
Acting on credible intelligence, a Calangute Police team on November 23 conducted a raid near the Helipad at Sinquireim, Candolim, where R Bharath, 23, a resident of Rangareddy, Hyderabad, was intercepted while allegedly arriving to supply narcotic substances to prospective customers.
He was found in illegal possession of 2.080 kg of greenish leafy flowery tops suspected to be Ganja, worth approximately ₹2,08,000.
The raid was conducted in the presence of panch witnesses by a team comprising PSI Saieel Vaigankar, PC Yogesh Bordekar, PC Peter Fernandes, PC Pritesh Kinlekar and PC Abhishek Gawas.
A complaint was filed by PSI Saieel Vaigankar, based on which an NDPS offence was registered by PSI Vishwajit Dhavalikar.
A day earlier, on November 22, Saligao Police carried out a raid at Pilerne, during which Mohammad Kader Khan, a resident of Kolkata, West Bengal, was allegedly caught red-handed in possession of 852 grams of suspected Ganja, valued at around ₹85,000.
The operation was executed by PSI Akshay Gaonkar, PSI Akshay Fatarpekar, HC Vishant Mayekar, PC Srikrishna Redkar, PC Siddharth Parab and PC Yogesh Teli. The accused has been remanded to four days of police custody.
Both operations were conducted under the supervision of PI Milind Bhuimbar, with overall supervision of SDPO Porvorim Vishwesh Karpe and SP North Harishchandra Madkaikar. Further investigation in both cases is underway.
