PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that not a single flight from Dabolim has been cancelled with the commissioning of Manohar International Airport.
“Today, Mopa has been commissioned, but not a single flight from Dabolim has been cancelled. Similar attempts were made in the past when the Konkan railway was planned in the State that it will bring outsiders into the State,” said CM Sawant.
He further said that there have been attempts to instil fear in the people’s minds from Salcete that Dabolim airport will be shut once Mopa begins operations.
Speaking further, Sawant urged the people to maintain vigil and thwart attempts to divide Goans based on caste and creed.
“A third force is working hard to divide the people of Goa based on caste and religious lines; I urge people to maintain vigil and thwart attempts to divide Goans based on caste and creed,” he added.
CM said that the Tourism sector offers huge potential for the people of the State to stand on their legs, the people to take advantage of Goa’s status as a tourist destination.
The Goa government had directed GMR Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL) to stop using any suffix or prefix with the name MOPA Airport and instead call it ‘Manohar International Airport.’
Developed at the cost of around ₹2,870 crores, MOPA airport has been built on the theme of sustainable infrastructure and has a solar power plant, green buildings, LED lights on the runway, rainwater harvesting, State of the art sewage treatment plant with recycling facilities, among other such facilities.
