CANACONA: Not allowed to enter the program hall, Canacona Congress submits a memorandum on the bad condition of Margao to Polem (Canacona) NH-66 to the Governor while exiting the hall after the program.
In an uncanny situation over the treatment meted out to Canacona congress activists, a group led by Canacona Congress Block President Prahlay Bhagat reached the Shrishthal panchayat, where Governor was scheduled to interact with three village Sarpanch and disburse financial assistance to Dialysis patients.
However, the group was stopped by Canacona police providing security cover to the Governor’s entourage when efforts were made to enter the hall (Shrishthal panchayat Hall) where the Governor was attending the program.
‘When we told that we had come to meet, greet and submit a memorandum on the bad conditions of the road, we were told by police that we were not allowed to enter the Hall or even to attend the Governor’s program. So we waited outside till the Governor finished his program and came out. We submitted our memorandums and informed him how the government and its agencies are cheating and lying to the people of Canacona over the bad condition of the NH-66 road from Margao to Gulem.
“We told the Governor how the road has turned from bad to worst and how people are suffering due to such conductions of this road, not attended for almost a year. We also informed his excellency how, inspite of following the issue with the different government agencies, including Canacona MLA and top PWD and State bureaucrats, the Canacona people are left to suffer their fate. Also informed that people cannot drive or ride on the road anymore, and a solution either to repair it or totally close it, and introduce other means of transportation to Canacona people,” he said.
When asked, Bhagat said they had come back from the Chief Engineers’ office last evening after assurances of a Minister’s visit and Governors visit to the taluka were informed.
Incidentally, while the Congress group was disallowed inside the hall to submit a memorandum to the Governor, three separate memorandums were handed over to the Governor during the program by Shrishthal panch members Livia Sanju Naik and Rajesh Gaonkar and Agonda panch Pramod Phaldessai.
