New Delhi: Marking 100 days in office, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta asserted that her government has worked tirelessly since day one, laying the foundation for a ‘Viksit Delhi’ (Developed Delhi). She highlighted key initiatives undertaken in healthcare, infrastructure development, and efforts to clean the Yamuna river—a core poll promise of the BJP.
Yamuna Cleanup Underway
Addressing one of the BJP’s major campaign commitments, Ms. Gupta revealed that the government has approved 40 decentralised Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), worth over ₹4,000 crore, to treat drains polluting the Yamuna. She emphasized that while the journey is long, the vision is clear.
“Raasta lamba hai, par disha clear hai,” she said, declining to commit to a deadline. When asked if she would invite former CM Arvind Kejriwal for a symbolic dip in the river, she quipped, “Why would I invite Mr. Kejriwal? Only those whom Yamuna calls can come.”
Healthcare: Mohalla Clinics vs Arogya Mandirs
Criticizing the previous AAP government’s healthcare model, Ms. Gupta labeled Mohalla Clinics as “corruption hubs” and defended the BJP’s implementation of Arogya Mandirs under the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat Scheme.
“These are not just cosmetic changes. Arogya Mandirs are fully functional primary care centers, operating 24/7 with trained staff. That’s real healthcare,” she said.
Mahila Samridhi Yojana in the Pipeline
Touching on the upcoming women empowerment initiative, the Mahila Samridhi Yojana, the Chief Minister stated that preparations are underway.
“Hundred days is a short time, but we are committed. Once launched, this scheme will not be stalled,” she said, assuring that formalities are being completed to ensure timely implementation.
Pollution Control Measures in Place
With Delhi’s air pollution becoming a major concern every winter, Ms. Gupta said the government is fully prepared to address the issue.
“Concrete steps are being taken. Our focus is on significantly reducing pollution levels this year,” she added.
Background
The BJP formed the government in Delhi after a 25-year gap, defeating the Aam Aadmi Party in the most recent assembly elections. CM Rekha Gupta’s 100-day report card appears to signal a shift in administrative style and focus, with a strong emphasis on delivery and accountability.
