PORVORIM: Taxi union leader Yogesh Govekar, popularly known as “Mogambo,” has strongly opposed the introduction of app-based taxi services in Goa, stating that taxi operators are not ready to shift to digital platforms and want to continue their traditional mode of business.
Govekar said taxi operators were earlier regarded as “brand ambassadors of the tourism industry,” but were later labelled as a “taxi mafia” when the government began pushing for app-based taxi services.
“We were called taxi mafia since the time the government started dreaming about the taxi app. Before that we were termed as brand ambassadors of the tourism industry,” he said.
Opposing the proposed app-based system, Govekar said taxi operators prefer to continue operating through the existing traditional model.
“We are not ready for app-based taxi services. Let us continue with our traditional taxi business peacefully,” Govekar added.
