CANACONA: Former minister and ex-MLA of Canacona, Isidore Fernandes, has expressed serious concern over the state of affairs in the constituency, particularly in the education sector, stating that “nothing is going right in Canacona” and that problems remain unresolved for too long.
“There are many problems in Canacona and they remain unaddressed. The government has given buses to private schools with public money—this is nothing but a conspiracy to fill certain coffers. Many wrong things are happening in the education sector, and we will raise our voice against it at the right time and at the right forum,” Fernandes declared.
He was speaking at a felicitation function organised by Ravi Charitable Trust, Canacona, at the Mataji Mandir Hostel auditorium, Tembewada. The event honoured individuals from diverse walks of life for their contributions.
On the occasion, special teacher Rakhi Naik, crematorium worker Sandesh Paiginkar, and ayurvedic dentist Dr. Mangala Velip were felicitated at the hands of Fernandes.
Divisional Education Officer Ganesh Gawde underlined the importance of strong foundations in primary education for better higher education. CMC Chairperson Sara Shamba Desai said that despite improved living standards, new social challenges continue to emerge, making social work essential.
Councilor Shubham Komarpant expressed disappointment at the decline of government schools and lamented the lack of a proper Hindu crematorium in the municipal area, calling it “a matter of shame.”
Earlier, Sunay Komarpant welcomed the gathering, Damodar Chari introduced the guests, while the function was compered by Suraj Komarpant.
