MARGAO: Margao Municipality Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar has issued a notice to withdraw the recruitment process of the municipality on Wednesday. It was decided to conduct this recruitment process on August 10.
The recruitment was for 43 posts including 8 LDCs, 1 mason and 34 labourers.
“Recruitment advertisement published in local dailies on August 11 has been withdrawn and cancelled,” the notice states.
These developments will have a direct impact on politics in Margao where the BJP has been in power in the municipality for 11 months.
It is understood that the brothers of two ruling councillors were promised recruitment as Lower Divisional Clerks (LDCs) in return for supporting the ruling party in the October 12 Margao CP elections.
Therefore, the notice to cancel the recruitment process is considered as a shock to the ruling group in the municipality.
MMC CP said that the stand has been taken following the directions of the Urban Development Director is purely an administrative matter and there is no option but to follow the directions.
After Urban Development Minister Vishwajit Rane’s directive, Urban Development Director Gurudas Pilrnakar had sent a letter to the Chief Executive Officer of the municipality on August 24 saying that all the recruitments in the Municipal Councils will be done either by the Urban Development Department or through the Staff Selection Commission.
MLA Digambar Kamat had told the media that a discussion has been held with Minister Vishwajit Rane about this and a decision is expected from the Director of Urban Development regarding the withdrawal of the letter sent to cancel the recruitment process.
However, Gurudas Pilarnakar refused to withdraw the letter sent to the MMC, saying that the Urban Development Minister had not withdrawn the order given in this regard.
