PANJIM: Israeli Yaniv Benaim (Atala), notorious for criminal activities in Goa including alleged drug peddling, has been granted conditional bail by High Court of Bombay at Goa in an attempt to murder case.
The crime was registered in April 2019 against Atala and two other foreign nationals on April 25, 2019 after 38-year-old Russian Eduardo Goryachev complained of the assault by them.
Single bench comprising Judge Nutan Sardesai granted bail to Atala after submitting bond of Rs 50,000 and one local surety. He has also been debarred from leaving the state of Goa and the territorial waters of india without prior written permission from Additional Sessions Judge.
Advocates Damodar Dhond and Swapnil Nasnodkar appeared on behalf of Atala before the HC.
Anjuna police had booked Atala in the assault case wherein he along with two Russians Maxim Litrinov and Denis are charged with assaulting a man with steel rod and knife at Chapora. The survivor was seriously injured while the three accused absconded.
Atala first came into focus in the coastal tourist State of Goa in 2009 following a video viral online, in which he boasted that his contacts in the police helped him source drugs and narcotics substances.
