Curtorim: Novovaddo Sports Club sealed their place in the quarterfinals of the 2nd Caniza Peixoto Memorial Football Tournament with a hard-fought 1-0 win over United Club of Unjirim in a pre-quarterfinal clash held at St. Alex Church Ground, Curtorim. The tournament is organized by Black Arrow Boys Agxem Sports Club.
The match began at a blistering pace, with both teams looking to strike early. United Club of Unjirim’s forward Dawson Sardinha missed two golden opportunities in the 3rd and 6th minutes, capitalizing on errors from Novovaddo’s defense but failing to convert them into goals.
Novovaddo soon punished those missed chances. In the 10th minute, Myson found the back of the net with a calm placement shot after being set up brilliantly by Milagres Fernandes, giving Novovaddo a crucial early lead. The scoreline remained 1-0 at half-time.
In the second half, United Club of Unjirim pressed hard for an equalizer, but Novovaddo’s backline held firm, displaying excellent composure under pressure. Despite consistent attacking attempts from Unjirim, the Novovaddo defense stood tall and denied them the leveller.
In injury time, Milagres Fernandes had a chance to double the lead for Novovaddo in a one-on-one situation but failed to convert.
Interestingly, despite the loss, Dawson Sardinha of United Club of Unjirim was named Man of the Match for his overall performance. The award was presented by Aden Pexito, a member of Agxem Sports Club.
Novovaddo will now look to carry their momentum into the quarterfinals of the prestigious tournament.
