New Delhi: As global geopolitics continue to evolve, Russia and India are poised to take their strategic partnership to new heights. Russian President Vladimir Putin has accepted an invitation from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit India, marking a significant moment in their bilateral relations. This visit is part of a broader effort to elevate their ties and strengthen economic and political cooperation.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed that preparations are underway for President Putin’s visit to India. During a televised address at a conference titled “Russia and India: Toward a New Bilateral Agenda,” Lavrov highlighted the significance of this visit, saying it is now Russia’s turn after Prime Minister Modi’s first foreign visit to Russia following his re-election. However, the exact date of Putin’s visit remains unspecified.
Prime Minister Modi had extended the invitation during his visit to Russia last year, and this will be Putin’s first trip to India since the conflict in Ukraine began in February 2022. The visit is expected to advance President Putin’s new economic roadmap for 2030, focusing on substantial economic collaboration between the two nations.
India and Russia aim to double their bilateral trade to over $100 billion annually. A key component of this expansion will be the Chennai-Vladivostok maritime trade corridor, which promises to enhance trade routes and supply chains between the two nations. Currently, bilateral trade stands at approximately $60 billion annually.
