PONDA:
Rashtriya OBC Mahasangh, Goa, has demanded a full-fledged OBC Welfare Ministry and a new census for the State community.
President Madu Naik, along with Mahasangh member Nonu Naik, addressing media made three demands with the Goa Government, which he said needs to be fulfilled before the election code of conduct comes into force.
“The OBC Welfare Ministry for the State of Goa has to be on lines of Maharashtra Government,” he said.
Secondly, he strongly demanded the OBC census and filling of the Post of OBC Commissioner, which has fallen vacant since February after Vishwas Satarkar.
He said the fulfilment of all these demands is essential for social, educational and economic empowerment.
Madu Naik said there are 19 communities included in OBC communities. Still, their demands are neglected although they are the majority population. “They should also give OBCs Eklavya scheme benefit by the Tribal ministry as they can’t afford two to three lakh coaching fees for high education,” he said.
Naik said if they are socially and economically uplifted and united, they can even rule the country being a majority community.
“But we are falling behind in Goa as there is no Ministry to represent them like the ST community,” he said.
Naik said there is Ministry for OBC in Mahrashtra.
“The OBC`s P\population all over India is around 60per cent, and so separate budget head for OBC be created, and fund be allocated to all Department for Welfare,” he said.
He added, “When British were ruling in Goa, they conducted a socially backwards class survey and used to work for their welfare. When they had done the study of OBC in 1930, it was around 50 per cent population in India”.
He said that to provide the benefits under OBC and reservation, the survey of their population is essential.
“Even Shahu Maharaj, then Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Kanshiram, Ram Vilas Paswan, VP Singh and many other leaders worked for the upliftment of OBC,” he said.
He also said that OBC Commissioner post was fallen vacant in February after Vishwas Satarkar, who was given charge of the Information Commissioner.
He said for the upliftment of OBC, there is a need for OBC Ministry, filling the vacant post of post Commissioner.
