PANAJI: In a late-night anti-narcotics operation, police apprehended a 36-year-old man from Odisha near D.B. Ground, Campal, for allegedly possessing nearly one kilogram of ganja worth ₹97,000 in the international market.
According to police, the raid was carried out between 9:30 pm and 11:50 pm on August 12, during which the accused, identified as Ratan Kumar Pradhan, son of Goutam Pradhan and a resident of Nachimpur, Ambliatha, Jaleshwar, Baleshwar, was caught red-handed with 970 grams of greenish leafy, fruiting, and flowering substance suspected to be the narcotic drug ganja.
Pradhan has been booked under Section 20(b)(ii)(A) of the NDPS Act, 1985. Police said he was informed of the grounds of arrest in Hindi, with a written notice also handed over, in compliance with Supreme Court guidelines. His wife, Geetanjali Pradhan, has been notified of his arrest.
The accused was placed under arrest, and copies of the FIR have been forwarded to the JMFC, Panaji, and senior officers. PSI Deepesh Shetkar is conducting further investigations.
