PANAJI: Goa Police have filed 1,232 cases under Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bhartiya Saksha Adhiniyam since their implementation on July 1, 2024.
According to police, 544 cases had reports given to the court, while other cases are still being investigated. According to police, 23 trials have ended, with 21 convictions and 2 acquittals.
Since than, Goa Police has registered 1232 cases under BNS. In 544 cases report was sent to Court under section 193 of BNSS on completion of investigation, whereas others are under investigation.
In 23 cases the trials have been completed and judgements have been passed by Courts. 21 cases have resulted into conviction, whereas 2 cases have been acquitted.
In the case of the rape and kidnapping of a little child at Taleigao in the final week of July 2024, a conviction was obtained in January 2025.
Additionally, convictions were obtained in six cases of residential theft, five cases of auto theft, three cases of obstructing a public road, two employee theft cases, and one case of injury.
In other cases, the accused have received minor fines and jail sentences ranging from one day to three months, with the exception of one case in which the convicted individual was sentenced to eighteen months in prison for temple theft.
