OLD GOA: A day after Town and Country Planning Minister Babu Kavlekar assured to revoke permission to controversial bungalow in heritage zone at Old Goa, the Se Old Goa Village Panchayat has withdrawn the construction licence granted to the structures.
The Old Goa Panchayat Sarpanch Jovita Madkaikar said that the panchayat has decided to revoke the license of the controversial bungalow of BJP leader Shauna NC’s husband within the heritage zone of Old Goa.
Speaking to media, after a huge public outcry against the mega project, Madkaikar said that stop work order has been issued to the project proponent along with show cause notice towards withdrawing the construction license in a Panchayat meeting on Nov 30.
When asked why this action was not taken earlier, she said that they are awaiting legal opinion from their lawyer for the last four months.
She also implies that there could be forgery by the government in granting approval for such a huge structure as a replacement to a small structure earlier.
She further justified Panchayat approvals to the structure on the basis of approvals given by four government bodies including Town and Country Planning. “We have now found that the Conservation Committee approval was clearly for repairs and not for reconstruction. Based on this we have decided to revoke the license”, she added.
