VASCO: Cortalim Congress leader Olencio Simoes on Monday demanded that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) be constituted to probe the recurring and disturbing deaths of students at the BITS Pilani K.K. Birla Goa Campus, where four tragic deaths have occurred in less than a year.
Speaking to reporters, Simoes said the repeated incidents had created an alarming situation. “This disturbing pattern has raised deep concerns among parents, students and the general public. It is imperative to ascertain whether these deaths are linked to academic stress and institutional pressure, exposure to drugs or other illegal substances, or consumption of spurious alcohol freely available around the campus area,” said Simoes.
He added that the situation could not be treated as isolated events. “The repeated occurrence of such incidents points towards a larger systemic issue, either due to negligence, lack of monitoring, or possible illegal activities in and around the campus. Sancoale has now become a hub of illegal activities, which include gambling and prostitution too,” alleged Simoes.
Calling for urgent intervention, Simoes insisted that student safety must be given utmost priority. “The safety and well-being of students must be treated as a top priority, and only a neutral and thorough SIT probe can uncover the truth,” he said.
