CALANGUTE: Goa Police have arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly engaging in illegal matka gambling activities in Calangute.
According to police, an offence was registered on October 9, 2025, at 5:09 pm at Calangute Police Station on the basis of a state complaint filed by Head Constable Pandurang Samant.
Between 2:45 pm and 4:30 pm the same day, the accused, identified as Hasan Mechher Ali, aged 38 years, and resident of House No. 1305/5, Old Aradi, near Electricity Department, Candolim, Bardez, was caught red-handed near Ziva Spa, Naikawado, Calangute, while allegedly accepting numerical digit bets from members of the public in an open place.
Police seized two gambling slip books, two blue carbon papers, a ball pen, and cash amounting to ₹1,120 from the accused. He was arrested at 5:18 pm and released on bail at 5:24 pm the same day.
The inquiry is being carried out by Head Constable Pandurang Samant (B.No. 5456) of Calangute Police Station, and further investigation is in progress.
