Valpoi: One person was killed and four others sustained injuries in a road accident reported near Anjunem Dam at Keri, Sattari, in the early hours of January 27, 2026.
According to Valpoi Police, an offence was registered at around 6.30 pm on January 27, 2026, based on a state complaint lodged by ASI Raghunath Gawas of Valpoi Police Station in connection with M.V. Accident No. 06/2026. The accident occurred at about 1.30 am near Anjunem Dam, Keri, Sattari, Goa.
Police stated that the accused, identified as Mr. Nandakumar, son of Gopal Naik, aged 60 years, a resident of Alto Porvorim, was driving a Maruti Suzuki XL6 Smart Hybrid Zeta bearing registration number GA-03-Z-0792 from Belgaum towards Goa. While reaching near Anjunem Dam, the driver allegedly drove the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, lost control of the car, and dashed it against a cut slope on the extreme right side of the road.
As a result of the accident, four occupants — Sunita Ghategasti (48), Tanaji Ghategasti (58), both residents of Merces, Nikita Naik (52) of Alto Porvorim, and Bharati Manerkar (72) of Porvorim — sustained bodily injuries. Another occupant, Snehal Ghategasti (27), a resident of Merces, Santa Cruz, Tiswadi, succumbed to her injuries.
Further investigation in the case is being carried out by Investigating Officer PSI Kushali Naik of Valpoi Police Station.
